MPS Hosts Week Of New Teacher Orientation

Last week, the Medford Public Schools held orientation for new teachers, staff and administrators.  Everyone was welcomed by Superintendent Roy Belson, Deputy Superintendent Beverly Nelson, Assistant Superintendent Diane Caldwell and Curriculum Director Bernadette Ricciardelli.

The new teachers/staff were introduced to the following Directors who spoke about their programs:

Kathleen Medaglio, Director of Pupil Services

Amelia Jensen, Director of Guidance

Toni Vento,  Supervisor of Health Services

Paul Texeira,  Director of English Learners

Molly Laden, Director of Media & Technology

Lisa Evangelista, Public Information Officer

Marie Cassidy, Director, Medford Family Network

In addition, Donna Laskey & Jody Liu, who handle the District Mentoring & Induction Program, as well as, Charlene Douglas, President of the Medford Teachers Association, also addressed the group.

The new staff received training in MPS login, SchoolBrains, and Google.  They met with curriculum directors, attended literacy & math workshops, learned about the teacher evaluation system and received training in the district’s social/emotional initiative, mediation, professional dress and protocol.

New Administrators present at the orientation included:  Charles (Chad) Fallon, Principal/Director of the Medford Vocational Technical High School;  Paul Texeira, Director, English Learners; and  Shannon Demos, Assistant Principal, Brooks Elementary School.

Some present staff will be taking on new roles this year.  They are:  Ian Charles, who was the Assistant Principal at the McGlynn Middle School, will now serve as an Assistant Principal at Medford High School.  Jill Sawyer who was the Assistant Principal/Director of the Medford Vocational Technical High School, will now serve as the  Associate Principal/Director.  Jody Liu, who taught English and served as the National Honor Society Advisor at Medford High School, will now serve as Assistant Principal of the McGlynn Middle School, Molly Laden, who was the Assistant Director of Media & Technology, will now serve as the Director.  Music teacher & Orchestra Director Anthony Szykniej will now serve as the Director of Fine Arts.

“This is an important time for our new staff to get acclimated to the Medford Public Schools system.  In addition, they are able to meet each other and Central Administration staff.  I would like to thank Deputy Superintendent Beverly Nelson, Assistant Superintendent Diane Caldwell, Director of Curriculum Bernadette  Ricciardelli, and the new teacher mentors, Donna Laskey and Jody Liu, for helping to produce this useful and intensive induction program”, said Superintendent Roy Belson.
